Licensed physicians provide clinical care for patients living in the Northwest Arctic Borough and Pt. Hope, Alaska. When necessary, subspecialty consultation is usually obtained by phone or fax to specialists in Anchorage.
City Description:
Kotzebue is located 549 air miles northwest of Anchorage and 33 miles above the Arctic Circle. It is located near the mouths of the Kobuk, Noatak and Selawik rivers. Kotzebue, "Kikiktagruk", the Inupiaq (Eskimo) name, was the hub of ancient arctic trading routes long before European contact. There are no highway systems that connect the region with the rest of the state. Transportation and freight services within and to and from the region are primarily by air. The Ralph Wien Memorial Airport supports daily jet service to Anchorage, as well as scheduled flights by small aircraft to the surrounding communities. The population is approximately 3,500 in Kotzebue and 8,000 in the region. Seventy five percent are Alaska Native and subsistence activities are an integral part of the lifestyle.
Facility Description:
Maniilaq Association is a non-profit tribal consortium operating health and social service programs in Northwest Alaska. The current 88,000 sq ft Maniilaq Health Center was opened in 1995. The Health Center includes 17 inpatient beds; a large outpatient area; emergency department; radiology; laboratory; dental clinic; eye clinic; and a variety of related health and social services. We provide hospital services (primary care) as well as social services and public health services to Kotzebue and the 11 surrounding villages.

Job Requirements:
M.D. or D.O., from accredited medical school. Unrestricted Alaska License (Commissioned Corps-any state including Puerto Rico).
Board Eligible/Board Certified, preferably in Family Practice. Obstetrical training/experience preferred. Credentials and privileges approved by Maniilaq Medical Staff and Board of Directors.
Salary:
$180,000 to $220,000 per year
Relocation:
The cost of moving expenses for employee, spouse and dependents will be paid up to $10,000 plus airfare.
